Greetings, 2011. Goodbye, 2010

What is this decade called? The twenty-teens? The twenty-tens? Or are we into this century enough that we no longer need the twenty prefix? Is it just the teens or the tens?

In any case, it is a new decade for patidev and me too. We are 39 now, and will be 40 in 2011. As our fourth decade approaches, it brings, grey hair, baldness (yes, patidev still has hair to lose), back aches, extra flab around the mid section, a small bag under the chin, stiff muscles, and eyes that need a little help. I am finally willing to accept that we are growing older, and I need to take care of my health, lest I fall prey to diabetes, blood pressure, or other chronic ailments that seem to be taking roots with younger and younger folks every year.

So this is how middle age looks:

The brats are at that age where they don't really need to be fed, burped, and diaper changed. For the most part, they are happy with their books, dress up games, and such. Apart from their general inability to register what we say (or, perhaps, due to it?), they seem to be doing just fine.

Parents are getting older, but don't need feeding, burping, and diaper changes for a long while.

Patidev is getting into a groove at work, and enjoys both the challenges, and his colleagues. I too seem to be doing well at work.

Our old nanny and wonderful friend had a baby, and we were all struggling through those changes during most of this year - but luck seems to be on our side, and now we have found another nanny, who is just as wonderful, and often both nannies take the kids out together.

Money is tight, but we always seem to have enough to pay our bills, even when we splurge occasionally.

And patidev still somehow continues to be starry eyed and in love with me, even when my ample flesh jiggles, sending a thousand echoing tremors through the air every time I move. Bless those failing eyes.
